Pool Painting Frequently Asked Questions
When homeowners and property managers in Northeast Ohio contact us about painting their swimming pool, many of the same questions come up. Below are straightforward answers based on our experience — over 26 years in business and well over 1,000 swimming pool projects completed. If your question is not covered here, call us at 330-327-2932 and we are happy to discuss your specific situation.
How long does pool paint last?
The lifespan of pool paint depends on the type of coating applied, the quality of the surface preparation, the water chemistry maintenance after the pool is refilled, and exposure to weather and UV. A properly prepped and well-maintained pool surface can hold up for several years. Pools with poor water chemistry or coatings applied over failing surfaces will not last as long. We always focus on thorough prep work to help maximize the life of the coating.
When should a swimming pool be repainted?
You should consider repainting your pool when the surface shows visible peeling, flaking, chalking, fading, rough texture, or staining that cleaning will not remove. If the coating is losing adhesion in multiple areas or the concrete substrate is becoming exposed, it is time for a new application. Many of our customers contact us when their pool has not been repainted in several years and the appearance has deteriorated noticeably.
What type of pools do you paint?
We primarily paint concrete inground swimming pools, which are by far the most common pool type in Northeast Ohio. This includes older concrete pools, newer poured concrete and gunite pools, and pools with previously painted surfaces that need recoating. We also resurface hot tubs and apply pool deck coatings.
Do you repair cracks or damaged areas before painting?
Yes. Crack repair, patching, caulking, and addressing damaged or uneven areas are all part of our standard surface preparation process. Applying paint over a damaged surface without proper repair is one of the fastest ways to end up with premature coating failure. We address these issues before any coating is applied.
How long before the pool can be refilled after painting?
After applying epoxy or rubber-based pool paint, there is a minimum cure time of 7 days for outdoor pools and 10 days for indoor pools before the pool can be refilled. Temperature, humidity, and direct sun exposure can also affect curing time, so these are minimums and actual cure time may be longer depending on conditions. We provide specific guidance for each project so you know exactly when it is safe to begin refilling. Rushing this step can compromise adhesion, so following the recommended cure time is critical to the longevity of the finish.
Do you paint hot tubs?
Yes. We provide hot tub resurfacing and painting for residential and commercial hot tub surfaces. If your hot tub surface is faded, chipped, rough, or peeling, we can prep and restore it. Many customers have their hot tub done at the same time as their pool for a cohesive finished appearance.
Do you coat pool decks?
Yes. We apply pool deck coatings to concrete surfaces surrounding pools. A faded or worn pool deck can take away from the appearance of a freshly painted pool, so many customers choose to have both done as part of the same project.
Do you paint commercial pools?
Yes. We provide commercial pool painting for apartment complexes, hotels, HOAs, community pools, fitness centers, country clubs, and other commercial properties throughout our Northeast Ohio service area. Commercial facilities often need pool painting on a tighter timeline, and our crew capacity allows us to handle those projects efficiently.
